What inspired you to shift pyjama-style tailoring into pieces that can be worn beyond the comfort of home?
I love a matching set at the best of times but something about the timeless nature of classic pyjamas drew me to explore how they could be elevated to wear beyond the bedroom.
Elegant, supremely flattering (!) and above all, comfortable – why should they be reserved for the confines of your home?!
I loved the way I felt effortlessly put-together in a silky pair of pyjamas so I set about creating a hybrid pair that were tailored enough to wear out, and comfortable enough to wear in.
Bond Street harnesses a truly timeless and elegant approach, what are your top styling tips for showcasing these pieces on a night out?
Our Autumn Winter collection features exquisite hand-drawn prints in rich jewel tones & sumptuous silk fabrication. This combination to me naturally lends itself to eveningwear. My styling tips would be to lean into that; wear sparkly jewels and satin accessories, add an oversized or tuxedo blazer over the top and you’re bound for dinner and dancing!
Your garments can be worn from a coffee run, to drinks with the girls, & even on a bride's special day - what makes your brand and the idea of ready-to-wear pyjamas so versatile?
Sick of the wear-it-once attitude of social media, I was excited to create something that could be worn in so many different ways, and then to be able to wear them to bed night after night and feel just as glamorous. With little tweaks to the classic pyjama shape and clever fabrication, Bond Street had a ready-to-wear edge. The removeable tie waist takes them from loungewear to eveningwear and the hand drawn, bold prints are anything but “old-lady”.
Your brand ethos boasts femininity with thoughtfully crafted materials and textures that feel effortless when worn. How important is it - particularly as a new mum - to dedicate time to yourself, rejuvenate and treat yourself to pieces that make you feel good?
Ooft, how much time have you got?! All the beautiful cliché’s people tell you about becoming a Mother are completely true. However, they’re also right about it being the hardest gig in the world. You barely get an uninterrupted thought, let alone moment to yourself unless schedule it.
Since becoming a mum, I’m big on rituals. My evening ritual of putting the kids down, slipping into my Bond Street’s and making a tea is sacred to me. That time at the end of the day when I can aimlessly browse online, catch up on a show, chat to my husband or read a book is total luxury.
How has the advice shared with you from your mother and/or grandmother shaped your approach to style?
I think we’re all so influenced by the women we look up to, and I can certainly say that’s the case for me. My mum to me is elegant and refined. Never one to follow a trend, she knows exactly what colours, silhouettes and styles suit her and has dressed accordingly for as long as I can remember. She’s almost always in crisp whites (that somehow always stay white) and a little heel. My mum is a hairdresser and has passed down to us girls a total devotion (read: addiction) to blow dries, ha! Her approach to style has definitely influenced my love of foundation pieces, a capsule wardrobe if you will. As for my Grandmother, visits to her house consisted of trying on all her glamorous high heels, brooches and clip-on earrings. It was a treasure trove! She transformed outfits with beautiful accessories which is something I definitely try to emulate.
